Can you imagine a 12 year old short shorts Japanese kid watching Serena doing the contest, then cutting her hair and having any interest in that Devil Wears Prada-like woman that appears.
I'm not saying the writers know what they are doing. But I can't imagine kids being interested in these types of plots, especially not young boys. If this is why Youkai Watch is popular(actually appealing to kids) it makes a lot of sense..
