I'm with full assumption now that ORAS takes place in 2014. Along with the usual Wii U in player's bedroom and the references to RS and the timespan between it and ORAS, there's also the Hoenn News Network revealing the ages of several characters, in particular is Professor Takao Cozmo who is 40 in ORAS. In Sea Mauville, there are letters written by him back when he was a kid sent to his dad. Elsewhere, an old game system with two screens different from the 3DS can be found on a shelf. This is most likely a multi-screen Game and Watch, first released in 1982*, making Takao 8 at the time, corroborating with the letters.
*I'd wager the closure of Sea Mauville is somewhere around 1982 - 1986 given the evidence.
