Three things.
1) USUM was a disappointment to most people around here. A decent game would hold us over for a year or two. USUM didn't.
2) Having the game announced makes people look forward to it. If they'd never said anything, I doubt people would be so thirsty for more news, but having the "2018 or later" date spoken put everyone into a frenzy for more details.
3) In the end, we've just realized it doesn't matter. Time isn't a factor for Gamefreak to make good games. The crap they make us due to their inneficient planning and production processes, to their insistence on not hiring more manpower and, worst of all, due to the fact that they plaib don't care. Pokemon sells millions no matter how terrible the games might be, so the less time and effort they put into it the higher their profits are. Why waste resources on making a postgame when you can just release the game without one, and put those resources instead on another game that'll sell a few more millions?
