i always level up my pokemon to 1 level below the one they evolve at and take them to gyms so they can gain exp and evolve after the gym leader battle because i like to larp as if my pokemon was struggling to win then it evolves and btfos the gym leader like in the anime
in my latest playthrough i did it for everyone except for a drifblim that i caught already fully evolved
