In traditional hard game fashion the Ice gym leader gets a fuckton of buffs to make up for Ice's shortcomings. Her battlefield cuts fire damage in half, Hail does 1/8 damage every turn, Aurora Veil can be set whenever, Slush Rush is always active, Ice attacks get buffed by 1.5 and her custom 95 BP move Cold Truth hits both foes, just so much shit at once I'm not even listing here. I had to go back for some encounters I passed up.
I lead Johann and Yujiro. Jynx Cold Truths and Arctovish uses Surf (THANKFULLY not a Slush Rush/Fishious Rend set) as Arcanine melts away the battlefield with Heat Wave and Yujiro Brick Breaks into Arctovish, I expected Fake Out/Aurora Veil but w/e. Next turn, Jynx curiously does not use Cold Truth which resets her icy field, but instead Psyshocks into Yujiro as I swap for Frieza and take out Jynx with Flamethrower, Arctovish gets Johann low with another Surf. She brings in Beartic so I smack it hard with Frieza and swap Johann for General as Beartic thankfully just throws out a weak Rock Slide. Beartic dies next turn, out is Crabominable, who dies to a double up. Now out is Walrein.
Unfortunately this is where I realized I should have brought more water resists, but I expected this part of the fight to be in the icy field where Surf actually becomes part Ice type so my mons would resist it a bit better. Frieza is not only too low, but I have no real safe pivot for Goku who I need in to kill Walrein. So, I have to let the new guy die. I bring in Goku who kills the Walrein as Arctovish lands a heavy Surf, but that would be okay as I could kill Rotom-Frost in one hit and General could have killed Arctovish...but it lives on a sliver of HP and manages to kill Goku too.
Seven badges down, but jesus christ.
