The basic teambuilding loop and tinkering with new battle bits hasn't lost all of its luster to me, but I see it sated in fan mods, stadiums, and Showdown more than the newest games, so it is probably a holdover in my psyche. Punny enough, I've grown to appreciate the franchise's deliberate relentless positivity too, it works for a children's property.

The lesser Rocket storyline and less direct Pokedex mandate can make it feel like nothing happens in those games, but I don't know if I minded, particularly as sequels that are not obligated to be 1:1 with what came before any more than... all the ways they already are.
