Generally you want perfect IVs and mostly perfect EVs for your mons, if not then you're just putting yourself at a direct disadvantage to the opponent. You COULD just used whatever shitmons you used in the main story but you won't be going very far with it.
It's not what people refer to because people just want to play a satisfying campaign. Normally people don't really care about jacking off doing continuous battles for hours without any particular destination in mind.
To my knowledge, XY, ORAS (after cutting the battle frontier lmao), SM/USM, and SS have a single more or less copy paste battle facility. LGPE of course even has nothing except some weirdly grindy trainer battles. Could you tell me what I'm missing?
