He acts like it's a big deal when he gets cucked out of being champion but flips to being a professor at the flip of a hat, but there's nothing in the game to support the fact that he even really gives a shit about all the different Pokemon. He's a glorified punching bagdesu I agree with this, Hop should’ve been the antagonist of swsh to make his character and story itself a lot more of interesting and coherent, there is no realistic way that a kid being bullied like that would not result in any kind of trauma that may push him to commit atrocities/develop hatred/lust for power, that alone sounds like a better development arc, would make Hop’s motives of becoming a champ feel more genuine, and would also include redemption concept, in short words it still lines up with pokemon family friendly dilemma.
swsh story and characters are shit in overall, but hop was the only one who had hidden (and now wasted) potential
