I know how much people can't stand the Digimon comparison, but for me personally, Marshadow actually resembles a character from Yokai Watch, which resonates well with me as a fan of the series. Perhaps TPC was inspired in some manner by Yokai's art direction, though unlikely since they're not actually competition.
