After seeing how Magikarp land uses only your karp's attacks, I think they can do similar "challenges" with an Emerald/Sinnoh styled Battle Frontier. Like only click attacks work, only 1 type of pokemon, starters only, regionals, alternating stages between attack/click attack-only, etc. It wouldn't change anything fundamentally, but it'd at least feel a bit different.
