Lots of Japanese media uses this motif in many ways, such as two characters sharing a red scarf together. Xenoblade 3 recently did this with their two lead protags tying their hair with red thread, it can be abstract like that.
That being said, I disagree about the fishing pole stuff, I do think that's a big reach. The red thread of fate is pretty flexible but one thing it HAS to consistently be is red. The fishing line is not red, I don't think it's purposefully trying to play on the red thread of fate stuff with that intro, it's just a throwback.
