In the original and even 02 they had varied and unique designs that made it easy to tell who was who; in tri they're all generic anime highschoolers with a feature of two that might vaguely resemble an aspect of their former design if they're lucky. Matt and TK look basically the same and Joe doesn't look even remotely like Joe.
