I had the weirdest dream last night about beta Super Mario 64 from one of the leaks I was investigating from.
In the data directory of Super Mario 64, there are video clips of developers visiting a location in Mexico. The developers were experimenting a bit of CGI on their recording, and were attempting to flip the Aztec Tenochtitlan pyramid and tilt it so the sky is in day-night halves, and we can see both the sun and the moon, while the ground and the developers themselves are stationary.
I dreamt about a beta world area in Peach's Castle that has this implemented tilt-shifting island, a paradise of jungle-tundra land, filled with enemies and coins.
In this world area, there's an event where if you defeat a mini-boss, the entire world is tilted much like the developer video. You will need to grab onto a ledge while the world is tilting. As it tilts, it reveals a hidden passage, where if you enter it, nothing will happen.
I used a disassembler to try to figure out what that hidden passage contains, and it shows something about event_1218.srt, which is needed to trigger additional cutscenes.
I then woke up groggingly, wondering wtf I was dreaming about.
