>>43910233I've been using him as a bulky AV for speed control with Drum Beating and U-Turn, Knock Off and Drain Punch. He's surprisingly durable and can cripple some pokemon badly, since his signature move is a Rock Tomb clone that's got higher BP and can't miss. He also has High Horsepower to bypass Grassy Terrain's Earthquake penalty, which can catch some people off guard, and even if he's just running a Banded set his grass moves hit like a truck. He's also really good at support in doubles, since he's both a terrain setter with Fake Out and able to cripple some enemies. It's also worth noting that he's not just faster than Bulu but he's faster than most people expect in general, though Bulu is slightly stronger. In OU, where I don't have to worry about Dynamaxing, my Rillaboom has actually been able to kill Mimikyu consistently and reliably by Drum Beating it to death because with a small investment in speed he can outpace it after the speed drop. And that's not even getting into how Grassy Terrain can support his team in many ways outside of just "Bird go fast"; many pokemon weak to ground appreciate the reduction in damage from Earthquake. You could also do some more memey shit like Leech Seed sets with him or using Body Slam to try and get Paralysis, though Bulu's better suited for the SubSeeder Grassy Surge build since he has Synthesis. Wish from teammates also helps a lot.
I'm not trying to say Rillaboom is "God Tier" or "The best grass mon", but I do think he's often given the shaft when it comes to team building since he's more of a supportive type. Honestly, I don't think Rillaboom was dealt a bad or even mediocre hand, he's actually pretty solid: he has a good ability, a good signature move, good stat spread, and with Grassy Glide he'll even has a strong as hell priority move. He's not broken good or broken bad, he's just damn fine, and that's all I can ask for.
tl;dr, funky monkey can lift his weight and then some
