>>23495187I think its common to give characters certain niches that make them stick out like a sore thumb, as they are usually build on either for backstory or for character development. It is also often challenged by other events that would give the reader an idea of how far that niche can go on for and the possible danger of ever breaking it. Pokemon like Meowstic have to do it all the time as any reaction could lead to them opening those ears, revealing that organ that could easily wreck shit up.
For example, in one of the PMD fics that I may/may not do, I had the MC have a basic idea of emotions that was eventually expanded on, but unable to comprehend or feel fear. I then had the idea of having similar pokemon like the MC missing at least one basic emotion (happy, sad, obedient, etc) around as well,
eventually leading to the reveal that they all came from the same place.Accompanying this missing emotion would probably be a bunch of odd antics that could only be described as, well, "a human in a funny costume," enough to make others think that the amnesiac hero was human just like the protagonist of Explorers of Time.
