>>47618207Apparently there are more overt "romantic hints" between ash & gary in the japanese dub (along with ash/misty), but 4kids removed most of the ash/gary stuff and inserted extra ash/misty stuff, and as a result there is (or was back in the day) a larger following for ash/gary in japan. Or so I've read. I don't have examples, so correct me if I'm misinformed.
Most "rival" characters end up shipping fuel anyway so it makes perfect sense that the writers would capitalize on stringing that crows along, but I can't help but wonder what Tajiri & Miyamoto think when the anime team adds these moments between characters named for them.
