I'm honestly pretty amped for these games despite all the criticism. I do agree with the nat dex shit, but I don't think the games look as bad as people make them out to be. The wild area seems to have taken the hardest hit as it was probably an idea implemented late in the development cycle. The towns and routes still look pretty damn fantastic and I can't wait to explore them. Really hoping for solid dungeons with lots of exploration and secrets this time, S&M didn't do it for me in that department.

I'm honestly getting Kalos vibes from SW/SH, but better. It's shaping up to be everything that Kalos wanted to accomplish but could not on the 3DS. You've got a full train/transit system, fleshed out towns, cities and wild areas/routes, and more points of interest based on the map.
