You can make a game that is hard without every gym leader having a team of pokemon that can just shit on their supposed weaknesses by having 100% perfect coverage on every single pokemon.
The only thing that makes the game slightly bearable is Easy mode + Minimal Grinding, because at least then I only have to commit Audino genocide to win.
This was the team I beat the Elite Four with, and only because Garchomp had Rough Skin + Rocky Helmet and I had around 90 Max Potions and about as many revives. Over the course of the game I cycled out a handful of pokemon; Venasaur was a go-to for a lot of fights in the mid-game, I had a Machamp that got swapped out for Heracross because Mega Heracross is part of the 600 club, Scizor joined the team to pair with Galarian Persian or whatever it's called to take out Sabrina's NOT PSYCHIC BUT FAIRY TYPE TEAM WITH A FUCKING FIGHTING TYPE FOR NO GODDAMN REASON, and Gardevoir because I couldn't get my hands on an Abra. Water-Ground is a useless type in radical red because every electric type in the game knows Hidden Power Grass, Energy Ball, or Grass Knot except fucking Zapdos, and Lanturn is the one pokemon that I kept from the start BECAUSE it hard-counters electric types.
