But before that, I want to say that I caught all 6 of my encounters before facing the Gym:
Luvdisc, Finneon, Tentacool, Krabby, Wingull, and Sableye.
I decided to put Sableye on the squad to face Brawley. Loot, the Sableye, rekt shop. He plowed through the trainers and most of Brawley's team. His last mon, Hariyama, was sent out. I decided to switch to Sableye to evade all his Fighting-moves.
This is where my heart broke.
Hariyama used Belly Drum on my switch in. I used Fake Out for free damage. I wasn't sure if I was faster (I was 3 levels higher) or if Hariyama had anything other than Fighting/Normal type moves, so I risked using Night Shade.
I WAS faster. But unfortunately, Loot could only bring it down into the red (it had to be like 3 HP left). Then Hariyama used Knock-Off. Switched into Mulberry and killed it.
RIP Loot the Sableye. I was really loving that little bugger, since I've NEVER used one before.
After that, I grinded up a tad bit and ran into and caught a shiny Dwebble (on a route I've already caught a mon). What are your rules on this?
