I’m sure it’ll be popular with the fan base initially much like Pokémon GO but it won’t have as big of a wave to ride. As much as we may not like to admit it Gen 1 has a substantial pull with the fan base particularly the normies and genwunners. This significant pool of people guaranteed success however the manga does not have that going for it because within this dedicated fan base not everyone is well-versed in the manga especially if you’re using the fact that it has to stay loyal to it as a requirement for popularity.
In essence Pokémon is going to be wasting a lot of money which we know Pokémon does not want to do to cater to a very small portion of the fanbase. Sound familiar?
If they really do go through with it, any deviation from the manga would be detrimental to its popularity. Now let’s assume that this won’t affect popularity then they can do whatever the heck they want with this anime adaptation. So this begs the question why have two different animus
