Chronologically, the epilogue of HCAR occurs several months after a different incomplete story that’s meant to happen in-between, Time Off. Time Off, however, is actually the kind of fanfiction that highlights Tex's ability to craft a world around nothing but character interactions and minor setting details. What’s there is stellar, along with the rest of the incomplete stories that make up the bottom half of Homunculus, including a continuation story to a set of characters featured only in The Errant's Hearth and a story dedicated to setting up the greater universal plot as it comes. Satisfying as they seem to be currently, they are incomplete, so I'll leave my judgments there.
In summary, just read Homunculus. Then if you want you can read the side stories, including the PMD follow-up series and the disconnected series regarding the same universe. You're not really gonna find much better characterization than here. If you can't stand gardevoir and people that like gardevoir a little too much, just read Au Coup Par Coup. If you can't stand the build-up that's supposed to follow into the next major plot but hasn't been finished yet, just read Au Coup Par Coup. Just fucking read Au Coup Par Coup if you're so damn picky honestly it's worth it even without the context of the first few fics.
