3v3 singles are also the best they've ever been. I usually play competitive for a short amount of time each gen then drop the games until the next gen comes out, rinse and repeat, but this gen? I haven't stopped playing competitive. It's so fucking good and the new Pokemon almost all have competitive niches, EVEN the absolute shittest Pokemon in the dex. They still have something.
Heavy Duty boots is a great new item, the new tutor moves are perfect, the removal of cancer like Pursuit and HP is something I'm eternally grateful for, Pursuit in particular was an absolute blight on the game making Psychic types next to useless.
The abundance of QoL features we've receieved this gen too when it comes to making competitive ready Pokemon has been a godsend. You can now even get a shiny Pokemon and make it completely competitively viable. That's never been possible before. The one thing I did bitch about a few months ago was Hidden Abilities still cucking shinies but even THAT got fixed with the Crown Tundra.
Dynamax too is a fantastic mechanic that the more I use it the more I'm convinced this is the best idea the series has had since the phys/spec split.
I know a lot of people still can't get over not being able to use such quality Pokemon as Parasect and Bastiodon that I'm sure enriched the game (kek), but if you set aside your line in the sand over Pokemon being cut, it's I think pretty clear Sword and Shield are incredible.
