Start new gen project with a region based on somewhere exotic like Australia or South America to take full advantage of diverse ecosystems. And if the latter, expand on Mew lore while not detracting from the new gen mon.
Try to add all pokemon from past gens either through trade/transfering or some safari-zone like system full of "imported mons".
Introduce many new tropical regional variants of old mon and alternate methods to evolve pokemon into their variants from other regions, like Galarite or Alolanite evolutionary stones or something.
Probably not try to make it an open world and simply make it divided into large areas and routes once again so as to focus more on max content and gameplay over world design that would consume too much development time, resources and energy.
