It was horrible back then and it's still horrible now in 2019. Wouldn't it be as horrible if it was some small time IP that relied on more than just world, creature and character designs to stand. Pokemon doesn't have any story or gameplay going for it, and the only few things it's supposed to excel at are always an embarrassment.
