Given how each member of this line is perceptive of emotions of others, I doubt that such calculated contempt would allow a colony to endure for too long - after all, a member of it attempting to hurt others -be it on a merely emotional scale- would not only torment the rest with the victim's suffering, but own inner hatred as well - possibly leading to a situation when both the tormentor and the victim are forced out of the family.
As for the weakness itself, Gallades by their very design are more tangible and 'structurally sound' than the rest of the line. Since it is the "fighting" part of them that directly causes this weakness, I imagine that headcanon interpretation would paint an image of a creature that lives on the border of ephemeral and mundane - facing extra opportunities but extra threats as well.
Bleh, I feel disgusted with myself.
