He shoves us aside and takes off. We return to Elm's lab and give Assface's name to the officer, then hand over the Mystery Egg to Elm. Eventually, the conversation turns toward the Pokémon League challenge. We won't be able to get our old two Badges back, but the Johto region has Gyms aplenty for us to challenge, with the closest one being in Violet City. Elm wishes us good luck, but urges us to at least say goodbye to Mom before leaving. Especially after what happened the last time we left home.
If you lose the first battle against the rival, you don't get the privilege of naming him. His name will automatically be set to the default Silver.
