So I recently got my hands on a 3ds which means I have access to most of pokemon games, gba, ds and 3ds ones and I require some guidance and advice on how to approach this.
I played and finished pokemon red on gbc back in the day and also played that fan made shinygold version on gba which was gen 2 I think, so I want to skip both first and second gen and start with third
however I need to know a few things
1. how do I go about choosing which pair(of hte same release) to play assuming I don't care about trading pokemons? is it all just about which exclusive pokemons you prefer or is there more to it?
2. also, relating to the first question, I have read that some games within the same gen usually are usually updated versions with extra content of the previous releases within the same gen, for example like Platinum relative to diamond and pearl, and Emerald relative to ruby and sapphire. Is it simply enough therefore to play through the latest addition (Platinum and Emerald) or are there things I would be missing out on?
3. how important is it to play the games in their respective release order?
