>>58363699Ninetales is a confusing case, I'd say. He refers to himself as わたし (watashi), a gender neutral term (usually in PMD's context when "watashi" is specified as a feminine format, they typically use katakana ワタシ, like with Jumpluff and female partner for characters that show up in the story, or in the case of plot unimportant recruits, reserve わたし for female-exclusive personalities with generic unisex recruits never using pronouns at all). I personally am more inclined to believe he's male due to his speech patterns being a bit harsher (like the use of "omae" and generally talking more like a man-- it's hard to fully explain) compared to the female cast.
On a similar note, you know who IS female? Persian. She refers to herself using アタシ (atashi, almost exclusively used by girls) and has her speech patterns be more feminine, like the use of -wa interjections in certain phrases. This aspect of her character was kept in Super Mystery Dungeon too.
