I'm glad people are waking up to how bad FRLG are. If you're playing Kanto, Yellow is the way to go.

I don't think this opinion is "rage-inducing", but it does seem to be a rare one:
The idea of a box-art legendary has probably led to some bad trends in the series. They should have stuck to using starters instead, like the first generation did.

Pokemon Yellow is better than Red and Blue, purely from a gameplay perspective. It is the hardest gen 1 game thanks to the Pikachu handicap and the much higher levels on the gyms. It also has the most Pokemon available from any gen 1 game.

Even compared to the original Pokémon Yellow version Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! look barely like an upgrade. It's basically the same game in 3D without bugs and some minor additions.

I'll give a hint: my first Pokemon game was Yellow on the Gameboy Color. I don't remember my exact age when I played it, but I was certainly between 7 and 9 years old, and lived on a third world country.
