GF wanted a sort of roguish mascot for Gen V to act as sort of a mirror to Lucario, the Shadow Moon to his BLACK. Kids didn't really care for her though and as such she was sacked as the Gen mascot just before B/W2 and yanked from the variety show despite getting a couple of really good episodes.
Despite everything, it still has one of the strongest fanbases, especially out in Japan.
