Hapu is brown because ground types, Olivia is black because rock types, Kiawe has dark skin because it's "burnt" since fire types, Mallow is brown/beige because tree trunks since she's grass type, Acerola has the palest skin because ghost types, Lana has blue hair because water types. The older gen trainers sometimes have no indication based on their appearance on what type they would use.
If Misty was made in gen 7 you would immediately think she used fire types because red hair.
