>>58279859>salarywoman SapphireThis is more cursed than Sapphire just wearing pants for the lols. Even if Sapphire managed to hold down a normal office job, it would put her in competition with Ruby in the same social sphere (working world) for status and wealth. Their mentors, Wallace and Winona, doing the same shit (both gym leaders or at least part of the same league) ruined their relationship. Sapphire being different from Winona is part of why Sapphire's not divorced, she occupies a completely different social sphere from Ruby (who is an ambitious career climber with his contest shit).
More importantly though, Sapphire's true role
as Hoenn's Lorekeeper is most analogous to a jungle hermit or Shinto priestess. In every society there has always been a spiritual/religious class existing outside of typical societal roles. By living in the woods often by herself Sapphire already transcends normal society. She's also not a salarywoman/gym leader/champion/E4/whatever, which are just man made titles for a man made hierarchy, humans choosing other humans to lead each other. Sapphire wasn't chosen by humans to be
Lorekeeper, she was literally chosen by "God" (which in Pokespe RS/ORAS at least is represented by "destiny" and Rayquaza)
There is no higher status than being someone who speaks directly to God, and that's the significance of Sapphire being the only one to communicate with Rayquaza in ORAS. Sapphire's magic connection to the spiritual (= nature because of Pokemon's Shinto nature worship) lets her live off the land Tarzan style via "blessings" and be fine without need for money, let alone a regular salary, so she doesn't need a "real job".
And no it doesn't get any more complicated than that because it's a Pokemon manga, Sapphire's not going to create a church or groom kids en masse because "religion le bad" isn't part of the Pokespe narrative, it's the opposite.
