Like, something like Ash gets framed for a bunch of shit to sour his relations with the classmates he just met until he gets expelled as the shit he gets framed for gets more and more serious, some other personal shit happens to black out his sunny optimism, and then Team Skull shows up and tells him to join them because he's basically in the same position they were before they joined. Could've sworn I remember something like this being discussed with that very picture tbqh
