His newfound partner had destroyed the Striaton gym in only two moves- not even taking damage along the way. His other teammates quickly came and went.
The Makuhita that briefly accompanied them left once she'd reached her destination, delighted to have met up with a friend of hers and remained in one piece along the way. A Lillipup had joined them, too, but Mavis ended up scaring the poor thing off with her intensive training routine and an insistence that the new teammate was too fragile to be a mainstay. A Wynaut had even entertained them for some time... but soon after his evolution, he too left due to Mavis' personality.
It got to a point where, at the second gym, Winston could only say he had two real team members. Mavis and a Finneon (named Aurora).
He soon took his Deino aside and gave her a stern talking-to so that she could understand one single principle: Mavis may have been his partner, but it was not okay to scare off every team mate they had just because she disapproved. This was a joint venture, but Winston was the one in power here.
Just to make sure she understood, the boy gave his partner a death glare...
...and was brushed off with almost no acknowledgement. Mavis seemed more peeved than anything by his little self-righteous speech.
Sigh.
He'd get through to her eventually...
