With Mewtwo's return to relevancy through the early promotional material for X and Y, I'd be kind of curious to see Mewtwo return with a reworked moveset which highlights the Awakened Forme. Maybe not something as drastic as changing to a new character and moveset like Sheik/Zelda or Power/Zero Suit Samus, but as a way of balancing between two different playstyles. Common sense stuff -- the original, for example, might be slower, but heavier with stronger throws and tail attacks, whereas Awakened Forme might be floatier, easier to KO at lower damage %, and less powerful physically, but have the advantages of stronger psychic attacks, faster projectiles, and a smaller hitbox.
As far as representation for franchises as a whole, I'd be pretty content with keeping the number of Pokémon characters to 4, maybe 5 if another Pokémon character is majorly pushed. Sakurai already claimed he's not as interested in assembling a large roster so much as overhauling the game's direction. Not that he's famous for being especially consistent in his statements, and if he maintains the feeling that the developers "probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible" as far as roster quantity, I'd be content if franchise representation remains proportional to how it was in Brawl.
