>>53575399Poking around some more, the very line of code that allows for early leaderswapping is also what causes the partner to get KO'd and not fail you/not let them be selectable. This is because the original line of code is normally hit upon graduation, after which the game allows the partner to be selectable in Chimecho's Assembly.
There is one possible fix but I'm being told that it's permanent, and would always cause you to fail a dungeon if the partner gets KO'd, even postgame. I'm still looking into it, mind you.
