>>55188123 is very true, especially for double battles if you establish "match ups" between the trainers that essentially make the double battle into singles. Also focus on 1 perspective during the fight, not multiple such as rotating between Trainer/Pokemon or Trainer/Trainer. Battles have always eluded me but now I've changed the way that I write them which is a less is more approach. The swordsman approach is good because a battle is just a choreographed dance between Pokemon. Also a big thing is that not every battle needs to be a long drawn out affair because not every Pokemon is Ashs Pikachu. I'd rather read shorter sequences that feel complete than long battles that have pointless back and fourths. In this story I'm working on Ashs partner isn't a "battler" so when up against any trainer of real skill she is very quickly outclassed and eliminated from the overall battle.
