>>20157627Note that I said "A good writer takes these rules and works WITHIN them."
I understand that a lot of shitty writers tend to eschew common grammar rules and conventions and say "It's my style to write like this!" That's wrong. And that's also bad. I believe I also mentioned that "Style may be important, but readability trumps all." This is a rule that anyone who's interested in writing should follow.
As you write your story, you should focus on keeping your reader comfortable and entertained. If you throw out all sorts of shit like run ons or broken sentences, you're just hurting your reader because now they have an extra layer to work through while reading. They have to decipher your shitty ass writing. That's why it's so important to have the basics of grammar down before you decide to practice your style. Before you start bending the rules to suit your needs.
Style and readability aren't exclusive to each other. A shitty author could have perfect grammar and readability, but the style could be boring and dull. A shitty author could have an unique style, but breaks so many rules and conventions that it just hurts the brain to read. It's a fine balance, and it takes practice to find it.
