You guys remember going to see Pokemon: The First Movie in theatres? I think I was 6 or 7. First time ever going to the movies. Back then we didn't have stadium seating so my dad brought a pillow for me so I could see the screen. I don't remember much about it besides these two little kids screaming about Mew/Mewtwo but my dad recalls Pokemania being absolutely nuts. He never saw anything like it for kids, maybe only Beatlemania from when he was a kid. He even remembered some of the Pokemon names which I thought was really cool, and looking back at it, genuinely sweet. He'd sometimes call me over "hey Mewtwo come here!" lmfao. Just parents being parents. We were very poor growing up and had no disposable income but sometimes my dad would come home with 1 booster pack. My mom once bought me the 2.B.A. master CD which had some really great music.
The absolute best memory, and fuck, I still feel it to this day, is when my family went to Toys R Us for like the second time ever. My dad dropped me and my mom off and stayed inside the car with my baby sister. My mom takes me to the games section and I choose which Game Boy Color I wanted and I also took the paper slip from the Pokemon Gold game and brought it to the pick up area. I remember, vividly, the feel of that moment when the worker brought out a brand new in box Lime Green Game Boy Color with Pokemon Gold and a pair of AA batteries. I was on top of the world and so excited. From having not much to finally my parents being able to afford me a cool gadget. It was so awesome. I remember I got in the car and played a little and, when it came time to save, I didn't know what to answer to the questions "is it okay to overwrite your save?", so I had to ask my mom.
If I could ever go back in time, that'd be one of the top moments. I'd love to watch my kid self and my mom go thru that again. Sorry for blogposting. I'm on my phone.
