>>44974581I have a ranking system of several categories that I rate a game from 1 to 10, take the average, and then apply a swing factor to account for other smaller factors and the general feel of the game. Basically the excel formula is Score=Average * (1+(Swing/30)), I found 30 to be a good number that will generally bump something up by 2 points at most.
Some of the categories are Region and Route design, New Pokemon, Features, "Current Mechanics", Graphics, Length of Game, Pacing, Replayability, etc. I found that this gives a little advantage to newer games as it should but some of the older games I score based on the context of the time they were released.
In terms of generations I have it as:
5>7>6>4>8>3>2>1>LGPE (I refuse to group LGPE with a generation but I do consider it a main series game)
Games:
BW2 > HGSS > SWSH+ > Platinum > Emerald > USUM > ORAS > BW > XY > SM > Crystal > FRLG > GS > RS > SWSH (at launch) > Yellow > DP > RB > LGPE
Gen 5 gets ahead from having less games and the weakest pair was decent for a first version and the other games were just short of 10/10
Gen 7 has this as well
Gen 6 would have been on par with Gen 5 if Z happened and ORAS was less of a disaster
Gen 8 is hurt because of how barebones it was at launch which I factor as a separate game, and being too expensive for what it is
The first 4 gens were all steady improvements, overall
LGPE wouldn't be that bad but they gutted so many features to the point where it falls below games from over 20 years ago and from only 1 year prior. Standards are higher so I don't believe LGPE should get a pass just for handling following/riding Pokemon the right way.
