I'm personally not as attached to these threads as I used to be, but if one manages to stay up I try and contribute a little to make things more pleasant. I can't really speak for other people, but I can say that these threads are really nice when they're peaceful and I feel like most people want them to be that way. It's a nice little haven for gardevoir fans to talk about something they like.

There IS a group on Skype, but it's dedicated to coordinating doujin purchases for the next Comiket/Kemoket so that we can all get a better deal on them.
