The "Dark Ages" wasn't because of Christianity, it was because of the fall of the Roman empire, which left much of Europe in shambles, and the Church was the one left to keep it together, in fact it was BECAUSE of the Church that people and the historical texts and records existed at all. It was because of the Church that science was allowed to advance AT ALL. Most of the breakthroughs in the fields of genetics at the time were discovered by friars of the church.
