Aude (オード - left) is translated as Aether, referring to Heaven or the Upper World, while Shade (セード - right) refers to shadows or darkness. Their name meanings aren't direct antonyms of one another because they wanted the katakana to match, but essentially Aude represents light and Shade represents dark.
Therefore I wondered how they would look as a single being who had split into a light (good) half and a dark (evil) half. The original being would presumably be male, the Y chromosome having gone to Aude, leaving Shade to be a girl.
