I'm pretty sure that there's a lot of people who actually don't care about the culling, but they are protesting anyways because of the following:
>Game Freak is removing more and more features each Gen
>Game Freak becomes less ambitious each Gen
>Game Freak takes one step forwards, two steps back each and every game, the games are stagnating as a result and not evolving at all
>If they can cull Pokémon, a staple in the series, and get away with it, what's next?
>The announcement of Home literally two weeks before E3, which means people that actually care about certain Pokémon have to continue paying for the service and hope the next game will have the Pokémon they want to transfer
People are protesting because the core games are stripped of a lot of features since Gen 6. From Gen 3 to Gen 5, there were features that kept players, especially the non-competitive ones, back to the games. What's there to come back to in Sun and Moon after you've finished the story and post-game? Absolutely nothing.
Before the whole National Dex issue, whatever you said against Game Freak was dismissed and you were called a hater. When people complained about the texture and model quality as well as how robotic the character's movement is in SwSh after the reveal direct, every Pokémon games fan was against you. Now after #BringBackNationalDex became trending, people are actually allowed to criticize the games and people, even those that were against you, agree with you.
#BringBackNationalDex is also the only time anyone even reacted to something. This is the first time people's complaining actually got a response, even if it's a nothing response. Back when people complained about anything, no one even bat an eye. So everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, even those who don't care about the culling themselves.
