Why does this card exist? Why is it called "Cool" Porygon? I know it was released alongside Hungry Snorlax in Japan, but that just begs the question, why does Hungry Snorlax exist, and why is it called "Hungry" Snorlax? It just seems so strange and random to me. The weird Pikachu variants (Surfing Pikachu, Flying Pikachu, ___'s Pikachu) make at least some level of sense, given how massively popular Pikachu was as a mascot for the series. Did Japan have more of these weird variants early on? I know it became common with Dark Pokemon in the Team Rocket expansion, and [Trainer]'s Pokemon in the Gym expansions, and eventually every other card had some bullshit variant name in nu-Pokemon (Charizard XYZ Megavolution Alpha, etc) but at the time Cool Porygon came out, card names were much more vanilla.
