I honestly find it funny how many Gardevoir fans and fanartists treat the "helmet" as hair when it's never really been portrayed like hair. It's always shown as a fairly solid object, and in terms of animation it almost always moves like it has the consistency of cartilage (aka solid and shaped but somewhat malleable), and just has an outward skin texture that is mostly flat but slightly textured to be lined like hair.
I feel like that also fits the idea of them being frail. The "helmet" effectively being a natural helmet made of cartilage that evolved to roughly mimic the shape and texture of human hair due to interactions with humans.
And yet whenever I tell people this they say it's gross from an anatomy perspective or are just pissed off I prefer it over the hair thing
