Mallow fits the criterea of the regions "Gym Leader" companion, and also if by going by the artwork seems that she knows how to cook which makes her more then convenient for Ashs group as the cook.
She would be taking the Cilan/Clemont/Brock role in the anime.
That leaves a free space for the mainline female companion, either Lillie, Luna, Hau, or Serena.
I, personally see Lillie being the one who joins Ash on his adventure so he can teach her about the bonds with Pokemon since she doesn't like battling with them.
