It did not allow it to be *better* than it due to Pure Power vs unbuffed Inner Focus, but it was enough to give it a good niche as fast-ish fighting type with good coverage and SD.
Now that megas are (supposedly) off the table unless DLC miracles happen, any and all buffs to base formes are incredibly potent, and so are meaningful movepool additions.
Now both Gallade and Gardevoir have a strong ability that cements their identity and niche, which is cool and good.
