But if you're deadset on getting pokemon the pre-download is the absolute fastest way to play the game as soon as it launches.
-Amazon orders may not arrive until the following day. There have been cases of Amazon shipping pre-orders early and people receiving their games the day before, but there is no guarantee of that happening.
-If you go for the midnight release at Gamestop, you have to wait in line and deal with traffic. It will be late at night so there may not be that much traffic, but still, most people live 10-20minutes from their nearest gamestop.
-If you pre-download it, that means at the stroke of midnight the game is unlocked on your switch and you'll be playing the game at 12:01. HOWEVER it depends on how much available memory you have on your Switch and if you want pokemon to eat up all that space.
so, its really up to you. I've done all three at some point in my game purchasing career. I'm sure i'll get the game sometime down the road, but not at launch.
