The “ambiguity” of a Pokémon design comes from how vague the creature looks. Not their “theme”.
The Whismur family are obviously sound themed, but have traits of multiple animals

Snorlax is obviously a gluttonous pokemon but isn’t obviously based on one animal

Slowpoke is a sluggish pokemon but what the creature is unclear for many people. THAT kind of ambiguous

My favorite ones are the Chimeric designs. Reptile + mammal. Amphibian + fish. Dragon + Insect, Mammal + different mammal, animal + mythical creature, object + creature, etc. Literally Pocket MONSTERS so stylized animals being "peak design" is laughable.

I think peak creativity is the Whismur line. Feels like their design process was:
>Lets make an evolution line based on the concept of sound!
>Don't make them based on animals associated with sound, make them look like believable creatures inspired by the instruments of sound!
Would like to see more pokemon like these in future gens.

Pokemon evolution is the series equivalent of metamorphosis and not body growth. As the franchise was inspired by collecting bugs. Similar to insects, there will be some species that will undergo drastic changes on their appearance and structure to improve their life style.
